Cole Findlay's selection to the Coaches Select team Wednesday gave Oil City three all-staters. Noah Lucarelli and Blake Stevens were previously named to the Writers squad.

FINDLAY NOT FORGOTTEN BY COACHES

Cole Findlay, snubbed earlier by the Pa. Football Writers 4A all-state team, was not ignored by the coaches.

Oil City's senior cornerback, who finished his career with a school record 14 interceptions -- nine this season --  was named Wednesday to the first team of the Coachers Select all-state team.

He was the only Oiler picked to this team, but counting the picks of LB Blake Steverns and DL Noah Lucarelli to the Writers' squad, his selection gives Oil City three all-state nods for the season.

Here is the full team:

Five Oil City players were named to a District 10 all-star team released Dec. 13  by D9and10sports.com.

The Oilers were shut out of all the special awards, but Cole Findlay (DB/co-Athlete on offense), center Carson Foster and linebacker Blake Stevens were named to the first team. Steven Heise (RB/DB) ) and wide receiver Landon Baker were picked to the second team.

The Erie Times News is expected to release its version of D-10 all-stars soon. (Soon, now, was a couple of weeks ago. All-state teams to be released of Dec. 24.)

The Erie Times News finally announced its District 10 football all-stars on Wednesday

The paper picked 24 offensive players, 24 on defense and 24 linemen after reviewing film and stats and talking to coaches to get their opinions -- not only about players on other teams, but their own as well.

A District 10 Player for the Year will be announced at a banquet in June.

Six players from Oil City's District 10 4A championship team were honored.

A more detailed story about the team can be found on the goerie.com web site.

ABOUT THIS SITE

If you are from Anywhere, USA, and happened to stumble upon this site, Franklin and Oil City are about eight miles apart along Route 8 in Venango County, Pa. -- which is about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie in the western part of the state.

yardsandpoints.com (formerly venangofootball.com and then route8rivalry.com) covers the grid doings of Oil City and Franklin high schools in Venango County. It also includes the football histories of the two schools, which date back to 1896, along with that of (RIP) Venango Catholic (nee Christian and formerly St. Joseph in Oil City), which dropped the sport in the 1990s. I've recently included more stuff on basketball as well as the doings in other sports.
