Senior Dalton Wenner leads the Berries, who lost to Punxsutawney Dec. 4 in their 2025-26 debut.

Wenner, a Clarion recruit, sports a 115-20 career record.

He's a three-time state medalist and District 9 champ and a two-time regional winner. His record last season was 42-8.

Brooks Bialo, an Oil City student in the Cranberry co-op, won the 80-pound title in the 8 and under age group in Super 32 tournament in North Carolina on Oct. 17. He pinned his opponent in the finals. Varsity teammate Dalton Wenner posted a 4-2 record at 132 pounds

Photographer Christy Fackler captured a blow-by-blow of Seth Hollerman's pin of Greenville's Caden Saeler in the 107-pound match on Dec. 16. Then on Thursday the Knights for the first time since Jan. 7, 2016, fielded a full lineup and trounced Maplewood, 65-9.

Only two Cranberry wrestlers have ever won a title in the prestigious King of the Mountain tournament -- Darien Wenner this year and -- to his left in this photo -- Elijah Brosius in 2024.

Franklin's Gary Kiselka won his 100th match this season.

With his win earlier this month against State College, Cranberry senior Dalton Wenner became the school's all-time leader in mat victories.

Wenner, a Clarion recruit, is pictured here flanked by recent grads Dane Wenner and Elijah Brosius, Nos. 2 and 3 on the list. Dalton Wenner has 140, Brosius 139 and Dane Wenner 137.

Wenner 2nd at Midwinter mayhem

As it turns out, Cedar Cliff's Aiden Herndon is a nemisis for Cranberry's Dalton Wenner. For the third time this season Herndon had Wenner's number-- this time Saturday in the 139-pound finals of the Midwinter Mayhem at IUP.

Herndon decisioned Wenner, 4-2, in their latest bout. The two met twice in late December in the Powerade with Herndon coming out on top 4-3 and winning their second matchup by default.

The loss Saturday gives Wenner a 21-4 record on the season. His other setback was to Tyler Dekraker by fall, also in the Powerade.

Wenner decisioned Tanner Guenot, 7-3, of Bald Eagle Area in the Mayhem semifinals.

Bishop McCort won the 57-team event.

Not sure how all this works, but Ella Kasunic, an Oil City High School freshman who plays basketball for the Lady Oilers, wrestles for Franklin/Cranberry.

She was repping Franklin Jan. 2-3 when she took second place at 124 pounds in the Curwensville tournament. The Franklin girls team, coached by Paige Dunkle, debuted on Dec. 13 with Jersey Swartz placing second in the Redbank tourney.

Kasunic was first, Marla Hickman second, Swartz and Kayanna White third and Isabell Davensizer fourth in the Tom Carr Invite on Dec. 20.

Swartz had a pin in her first match of the Midwinter Mayhem on Jan. 9 and finished fifth at 155 with a 3-1 record. Kayanna White won two matches in the wrestle-backs on Saturday before bowing out.

Kasunic, White, Hickman, Alyssa Braun and Riley Victor are listed on the Cranberry roster. Those five along with Davensizer, Swartz and Ava Aaron complete the Franklin team.

ABOUT THIS SITE

If you are from Anywhere, USA, and happened to stumble upon this site, Franklin and Oil City are about eight miles apart along Route 8 in Venango County, Pa. -- which is about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie in the western part of the state.

yardsandpoints.com (formerly venangofootball.com and then route8rivalry.com) covers the grid doings of Oil City and Franklin high schools in Venango County. It also includes the football histories of the two schools, which date back to 1896, along with that of (RIP) Venango Catholic (nee Christian and formerly St. Joseph in Oil City), which dropped the sport in the 1990s. I've recently included more stuff on basketball as well as the doings in other sports.
